My journey into the world of Traditional Chinese Medicine started as a child with a mother who had a natural remedy for everything.
Her remedies included EVERYTHING from using a ripe banana peel on a wart to a hot lemon honey drink for a cold.
I learned early the value of relying on our bodies own natural healing potential when given the right impetus. This spurred a curiousity in me to understand the intricacies of how the body works. I attended Miami University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Zoology. Throughout this time, I gained a strong foundation in Science and Western Medicine, as I spent copious amounts of time working in the research lab and in doctors offices during my breaks from school.
“I am passionate about providing effective holistic healthcare and consistently inspired by the healing that takes place in my patients.”
These experiences instilled in me an appreciation for the systematic approach of Western medicine, which I incorporate into my treatment planning. I went on to earn my Master’s in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in Portland, OR.
Through all of this yoga became a constant in my life. In time, yoga transformed from something I did to a way that I was being and interacting in the world. This also initiated a shift in my perspective about healthcare from a “fix what’s wrong” approach to an “encourage what’s right” approach; away from disease-centered healthcare towards a wellness and prevention-centered approach.
I recognize the individuality in each of my patients and utilize a variety of modalities during acupuncture treatments including cupping, Shiatsu, Chinese Herbal medicine, yoga, and diet/lifestyle advice to bring the body into balance. I continue to be inspired and awed by the healing and transformation that takes place in my patients daily.
As my practice has grown, I have discovered a passion for treating Women’s health. I have pursued additional training in fertility treatment, pre and postnatal yoga, and most recently became a DONA trained birth doula offering acupuncture and support for women in labor and birth. For more information on treatment for Women’s Health issues, please visit my Women’s Health page.
I specialize in treating women’s health, and have a strong interest in treating pain conditions both chronic and acute with acupuncture and therapeutic yoga.
